Rebuild21: Rebuilding Education for the 21st Century

CIEL was invited to participate at Rebuild21 , 30-31 may 2012, and we are excited to have had the opportunity to participate in the second Rebuild21 conference held in Copenhagen since 2011.

The purpose of the conference, as stated by Sofus Midtgaard (founder of Rebuild21) is to gather “passionate leaders and innovators driven to change the world” – and we were there along with an ambitious group of people ready and able to make a positive change in their field of work. It was an inspiring event, which set out to deliver constructive thought and debate on four main themes; Constructive Media, Rethinking Finance, 21 st Century Business and of course Rebuilding Education.

CIEL director Mikkel Trym joined a panel discussion on Rebuilding Education, and had the pleasure of hosting a breakout session on Educating Entrepreneurial Minds. Also, CIEL was lucky enough to bring several employees and collaborators to contribute to the agenda:

Challenges:

  • How do we educate motivated, independent, entrepreneurial minds of the 21st century instead of carrying on with standardized, creativity killing systems of the 20th century?
  • What are the key elements in creating more stimulating and engaging learning environments?
  • What are the great examples that will show us what 21st century elementary schools and universities might look like?

Other topics of discussion:

  • Entrepreneurship in education
  • The 21st Century University
  • New Learning Platforms
  • Learning styles

Breakout session on Rebuilding Education with Mikkel Trym. In this session Mikkel and the Rebuilders explored the question of how to focus our education towards creating entrepreneurial young talent, including models for novel private-public learning platforms, cross-disciplinary teaching and the integration of ideation, innovation and entrepreneurship in academia.

Thought-provoking and witty Keynotes on Rebuilding Education: From the right; Luise Noring Henler (senior project manager, CIEL), Ole Wilken (communications assistant, CIEL), Michelle Rødgaard-Jessen (project assistant, CIEL) and Stine Hamburger (project manager CIEL)

Breakout session Flip the Class Room – this session asked the question: “Have we reached a stall with one-way teaching? Do we need a more interactive and collaborative learning space to meet the (educational and work related) challenges of tomorrow?”

Breakout session: Driving Change – Fixing the Broken Link Between Strategy and Reality. CIEL employees in a breakout session with Ask Agger and other Rebuilders – main take-away: “Culture eats strategy for breakfast”. In order to establish a learning environment conducive to innovation and entrepreneurship we need to better understand the different innovation and entrepreneurship cultures within our (different) university institutions.
