Entrepreneurship Excellence Programmes

The final EEP themes have been selected

We are proud to present the three themes for our Entrepreneurship Excellence Programmes: Food Entrepreneurs, Digital Services and Green Innovation in Cities.

Each Entrepreneurship Excellence Programme has been created by a cross-disciplinary consortium of partners from academia and the industry. These teams are now working to develop content and courses and we will keep you informed of developments as they are finalized. Learn more about each theme below.

What is an Entrepreneurship Excellence Program?

An EEP is a multidisciplinary academia-industry training programme for students at UCPH, CBS and DTU. By working on real innovation challenges and in close collaboration with industry partners, the students will develop an entrepreneurial skills- and mindset which in turn will encourage them to add greater knowledge-based value in business and society over the long term.

The Programmes aim to unfold full learning and societal impact through:

  • Academic Excellence
  • An entrepreneurial teaching approach (REAL project challenges)
  • A high-profiled, collaborative and cross-disciplinary platform
  • A joint action between institutes and corporate partners

Food Entrepreneurs

The EU food and beverage industry is the largest manufacturing sector in Europe with a turnover of €965 billion in 2009. However, the food industry is facing increasing competition from other markets, including the BRIC countries. Recognizing and targeting societal challenges – such as health, food safety, climate change and sustainability issues by examining the entire food value chain – will give the danish food industry opportunities to enhance its global competitiveness. The focus of this theme is food from a value chain perspective, including full utilization of raw materials (with waste seen as residual resources), optimization of processes, increased marked value and exchange of knowledge in cross-disciplinary efforts.

The programmes educational focus entails applying entrepreneurial thinking and innovation (from idea to market) to the food value chain. This approach will help prepare students to become entrepreneurs and/or engage in innovative practices as they enter the business world.

The first summer school was held in August 2012 and focused on beer brewing. A second summer school will be held in 2013 with a different theme (dairy, fish or meat etc.). In addition to the two summer schools, an entrepreneurship course dealing with challenges from the food industry will be developed. This Food Entrepreneurs EEP marks the first step towards a large EU application named FoodKIC in 2014.

Digital Services

The shifting of the economy from goods to services, and the rapid expansion of the information economy and electronic networks has put digital services at the core of today’s business world.

The diffusion and prevalence of digital services have changed the structure of industries, created significant social and economic value, and generated numerous business opportunities. Online banking, media streaming, electronic tax filing, and e‐health portals are some of many digital services that have fundamentally changed the value chains of commercial and civil services in the past decade. The Digital Services EEP will create an entrepreneurship program that provides students with the theoretical frameworks and practical skills that enable them to develop innovative digital services.

Green Innovation in Cities

By 2008, more than half of the world’s population lives in cities and by 2030, United Nations Population Fund (UNPF) projects that more than 5 billion people live in urban settings. The challenge for the next few decades is learning how to exploit the possibilities urbanization offers. Therefore it is important that cities become sustainable and provide superb living conditions for its inhabitants. Changing the cities in a more sustainable direction is not an easy task, among other things, because it is costly to change existing structures. On the other hand, if you generate a good idea or have gained experiences that are relevant to metropolises around the globe, the potential is big.

The EEP Green Innovation in Cities is an educational initiative aimed at increasing the innovation and entrepreneurship content of teaching activities. The Green Innovation in Cities EEP consists of three courses: Urban Greening, Urban Flows and Green Energy and a summer school in Cleantech. All three courses and the summer school are offered as electives to master students at CBS, UCHP and DTU, and all three courses are taught by teachers from CBS, UCPH and DTU. The summer school is offered by CSE at CBS and also includes all three partnering universities.
