Designing better digital tools

Healthcare increasingly becomes networked and distributed across sites and actors. Treatments therefore more often involve the joint efforts of several health providers and the empowered patient. When designing tools for medical work it is therefore paramount to shift paradigm; it is no longer productive to view medical work as individual situated practices. Instead we need to design for the delivery of coherent services.

Digital technologies are fundamental for the development of future healthcare services: This material holds great opportunity for enabling new types of communication and collaborative work and enable healthcare to reach and involve new people and settings. To create better healthcare services, we need to design better digital tools.

A service design perspective

In Digital Service Innovation we approach this challenge from a service design perspective: students are teached in prototyping better health services through intensive collaboration with users, project partners from the industry and not least, other prospective design practitioners with other professional foundations.

Digital Service Innovation is taught for and by people from Copenhagen Business School, The Technical University of Denmark and the University of Copenhagen join forces. The course  involve perspectives from design research, innovation theory, computer science, entrepreneurship and business modeling and engineering. Furthermore students are trained in collaborating in cross-disciplinary teams and with real world project partners.

The projects are realised through close collaboration with external projects hosts and are therefore evaluated by their practical relevance, feasibility and business potential.
