Copenhagen Innovation and Entrepreneurship Lab
Welcome to Copenhagen Innovation and Entrepreneurship Lab (CIEL) – a new platform for collaboration between universities and industry.
What is CIEL?
CIEL is an alliance between the three major universities in Copenhagen and embodies their joint efforts to develop and support initiatives within innovation and entrepreneurship for the benefit of students, industry, research and education within the region.
CIEL represents a unique collaborative model including
- 3 partner universities (DTU, CBS, UCPH)
- 3 target areas: Research, Education and Students
- 9 novel cross university-industry programs
- 90 projects in partnership with faculty, student organizations and business.
-
CIEL Principles
- We provide a neutral platform and co-creation space for our partners.
- We aim for creating best practices through a large number of pilot projects.
- We build on academic excellence and hands-on learning in creating knowledge-based value.
- We create critical mass by pooling the joint potential of our partner universities in reaching an international benchmark.
- We facilitate horizontal and vertical collaboration at our partner universities by demonstrating leadership and encouraging local ownership.
- We promote entrepreneurial role models.
- And we see our students as the main driver for change.
Activities
In research, the Entrepreneurship Research Accelerator (ERA) creates new research alliances and seed-finance for about 20 new I&E research projects. In addition, a novel entrepreneurial database will create the basis for unique longitude studies on the impact of I&E university education.
In education, we support and facilitate the development of I&E courses, including four new Entrepreneurial Excellence Programs (EEP) in 1) digital services in health, 2) food entrepreneurs, 3) green innovation in cities and 4) bio innovation. Also, we are developing a train-the-trainer program as part of the “adjunktpædagogikum”. Furthermore we build strong networks across our partner universities with links to industry and society.
For students, we support the development of co-curricular activities and we seek to develop and improve the support provided by the entrepreneurial eco-system. The Entrepreneur in Residence program uses existing university IP as both an educational and an entrepreneurial driver. Startup Spirits is a novel inspirational game for students to become entrepreneurs.
Funding
CIEL’s first project period (2011-2013) is funded by the European Social Fund, Vækstforum Hovedstaden and the three partner universities for a total of DKK 36 mio.
